Plot

Before advancing towards review, here is a short summary of Demon Slayer’s plot that explains the main story of the anime.

The anime follows a young boy struggling with finances living in the mountains with his family. Although life was tough for him, Tanjiro Kamado was happy to support his family. However, a tragedy falls on the Kamado family leaving Tanjiro in utter despair.

All of his family members were killed by blood-thirsty demons except for his younger sister, Nezuko Kamado. Unfortunately, she was turned into a demon by Kibutsuji Muzan (Demon King).

Tanjiro decided to become a Demon Slayer to exterminate demons from the world while finding a cure for his beloved little sister.

Review

Demon Slayer Series consists of 3 seasons and 1 movie. We will do a detailed review of each season separately for better understanding.

The first season of Demon Slayer was released in the spring (April) of 2019 and continued to the autumn (September) of 2019. The first season concludes with 26 episodes. The show’s second season was released on October 10th, 2021, and a third season followed on December 5th.

Demon Slayer anime brilliantly adapts the important parts of chapters without any alteration, which is quite a revolutionary thing in the industry.

Most anime change the events of their respective manga that lead to different endings, which can cause problems for the author and manga readers. Demon Slayer anime mostly stays faithful to its source material while providing unparalleled entertainment.

Art Style

Demon Slayer Review

Demon Slayer anime is produced by a small studio known as Ufotable. The studio has surprised the entire industry with its stunning animation featured in Demon Slayer.

Even though the studio was small, it was famous for its beautiful animation scenes and consistent quality. It is not wrong to say that the true potential of the Demon Slayer anime has been revealed by the efforts of Ufotable studio.

Demon Slayer’s art style and aesthetics are very unique. The animation is smooth and flawless, and it is a breath of fresh air in the anime industry.

Character Development

Character development is the most challenging aspect of the story. Most anime fail to evolve their characters throughout their runtime. However, the creators of Demon Slayer anime properly flesh out their characters.

Demon Slayer brings good character development to the main cast and even the anime characters.

Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira are two well-known names who are the companions of Tanjiro. The writer gave these individuals opposing personalities to provide them with greater depth in their positions.

Zenitsu, for example, is depicted initially as a coward. Still, he overcomes his worries and accepts his position as a Demon Slayer through time. Inosuke is known for his silly nature and fiery personality. While his character isn’t given as much attention as the others, he does add unique charisma to the show.

Wide Array of Characters and Personalities

Demon Slayer is a show made popular by its characters. It has a broad range of characters, each with its own distinct personality. On the other hand, the same principle may not apply to demons. To be honest, most of the show’s demons have very one-sided personalities.

The majority of demons are known for their thirst for blood and desire to kill. It’s a crucial factor that makes demons more forgettable than the human characters.

However, there are a few exceptions. The most unpredictable demon is Kibutsuji. It’s tough to imagine what he wishes to accomplish by creating more and more demons.

The show also depicts the harsh conditions of surviving in the wilderness by using a realistic environment of snow and mountains. The demon designs are created with sinister aspects, from their aggressive character to their murderous grins.

Blend of Humor

Demon Slayer anime has a perfect balance between humor and more serious moments. The show avoids taking itself too seriously. But the comedy doesn’t feel forced, and it all blends naturally with the show’s storyline.

Humor is mainly used to lighten up situations. Often Tanjiro has moments that are impossible to forget. Most anime is horror, and the thriller genre only focuses on darkness and tragedy. Most episodes are filled with despair; such animes may become boring at times.

Demon Slayer uses a blend of tragedy and humor to keep his audience engaged. Several episodes with tragedy are followed by humor and fun to balance the overall series in terms of viewer experience.

Phenomenal Theme Songs and Voice Acting

The voice of the characters plays a vital role in the success of the anime. All of the voice actors in Demon Slayer are undoubtedly talented. Each of them played their role to the fullest that contributed a lot to the success of Demon Slayer.

However, the best acting award for Demon Slayer goes to Hiro Shimono (Voice Actor Of Zenitsu Agatsuma) for his awe-inspiring voice acting that resonates perfectly with his character.

Moreover, the soundtrack is also excellent, and you will enjoy it if you give it a try. LiSA’s Opening song “Gurenge” has a spectacular vibe with its visual storytelling. At the same time, the ending theme “from the edge” emits a sense of serenity and loneliness.

Demon Slayer Mugen Train Movie Review

The Mugen Train Movie is a continuation of Demon Slayer’s first season. The film was released in the fall of 2020 (October). The film’s overall success made the Demon Slayer franchise more popular. It broke many records worldwide and in Japan as well.

To be honest, this might have simply been a teaser for the next season of Demon Slayer. Still, I appreciate the necessity to build anticipation inside the story.

The film was an instant hit in Japan, and the excitement for a worldwide release was incredible. Needless to say, the experience was beyond fantastic because it remained faithful to the original narrative. Also, incorporating added complementary sequences not found in the manga, so even if you’re a die-hard manga fan, you’ll be in for a treat.

One of the key factors contributing to Demon Slayer Mugen Train’s success was its engaging story and characters that had the viewers rooting for them unreservedly. Oh, and don’t forget about the stunning artwork and animations in the series; you can expect nearly two hours of pure eye pleasure, as well as charming characters to propel the story along.

Although the music and voice acting were crucial in evoking emotions, the writer is a genius. He managed to link such deep emotions within a plot that flows through so flawlessly. The pacing is very smooth, and the film never feels like a drag for one moment.

The relatability, sensitivity, and just the humane essence of what makes us human make the characters so beloved by fans. However, the character development of some characters wasn’t as prominent as it needed to be.

The music is a repeat of its prequel, but LiSA released a new song for the film with a few changes here and there, so you already know it’ll be good.

The existing voice actors have done a remarkable job, as expected. Still, the new cast of A-listers has also left an everlasting expression on the audience.

The movie was an actual emotional roller coaster; it kept me entertained from beginning to end, even though it can be a little predictable. The nuanced portrayal of emotions and the exciting storyline are enough to keep anyone glued to their seat.

None of the scenes in Demon Slayer Mugen Train ever felt rushed. Every moment in the movie feels natural. Viewers can experience the magic of Demon Slayer anime in the movie. Overall, the movie promised us a bright future for the upcoming seasons of this anime.

Demon Slayer (Season 2) Mugen Train Arc Review

Demon Slayer Mugen Train Arc, aka the Mugen Train arc, is a newly released season of Demon Slayer, even though it is a remake of the Mugen Train Movie.

There are 7 episodes in this season that feature some additional cutscenes and blu-ray content that was not available in the movie.

After the first episode, Demon Slayer season 2 is mostly the same as the movie, but with some added content such as more conversations, a few new scenes and camera angles, and improved aesthetics.

Several short post-credits scenes from the first season contain some funny sketches or Taisho-era secrets. The progress between the episodes is moderate, which may be annoying for some people, but most people enjoyed it.

Is Demon Slayer (Season 2) Mugen Train Arc worth watching?

Most fans wonder if the Demon Slayer season 2 is worth it? It really depends upon the viewer. I enjoyed the additional scenes that were not available in the movie.

Although they were short, I still got to see more Demon Slayer content after a long time. In short, if you are a hardcore Demon Slayer fan, then you should definitely check this season out.

Demon Slayer (Season 3) Entertainment District Arc

*This part is not a complete review as season 3 of Demon Slayer is still airing*

Finally, the producers gave us some new content in Demon Slayer season 3. Fans were waiting tirelessly for season 3, but the release date was extended because of Covid and other reasons.

As of this moment, five episodes of Demon Slayer season 3 have been released, and as expected, this season will be great as far as I can tell.

The main focus of this season will be around the “sound Hashira,” Tengen Uzui, and the Tanjiro Kamado team. They will fight the upper-level demons wreaking havoc in the Yoshiwara Red light district.

Fans are eagerly waiting for the next episodes of season 3. Each episode is usually the subject of discussion among otakus.
